Authorities identify woman killed in apparent murder-suicide in Arcadia

ARCADIA (CNS) – Authorities today identified an Arcadia woman whom authorities believe was fatally shot by her husband, who then fatally shot himself.

Investigators went to the 800 block of Sunset Boulevard about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which assisted Arcadia police in the investigation.

Cherry Liu, 40, who lived at the location, died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported. Her husband, in his 40s, died at a hospital. His name was withheld, pending notification of next of kin.

“Police department officers responded to the location regarding a call of a person down,” a sheriff’s statement said. “Upon arrival, the  officers found a man and a woman in an alleyway behind an apartment, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.”

The pair were married but living separately, the sheriff’s department reported.

“It appears the woman was shot by the man before the man turned the gun on himself,” the statement said. “The weapon is in custody and there is no suspect outstanding.”
