Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan might be relative unknowns when it comes to hosting the Rose Parade, but this year the pair has promised to make Pasadena’s New Year’s Day celebration the most-watched comedy event of the year.
That’s because the characters, who will host the “The 2018 Rose Parade Hosted by Cord and Tish” via Amazon Prime, are alter egos for former Saturday Night Live cast members Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell. Partnering with comedy producers Funny or Die, Amazon will stream the live event for Prime members on New Year’s Day, starting at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
“Cord and Tish are parade legends, beloved the world over, and it was such a coup for us to steal them away to Amazon Prime Video for their first-ever live-streamed parade,” Heather Schuster, Head of Unscripted for Amazon Originals, told Deadline, staying in-character for the announcement.
Ferrell and Shannon, who collaborated on Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2001, will play two bickering television hosts who have made the jump to a worldwide audience, and have trouble adjusting. Ferrell and Shannon are expected to spoof long-time parade commentators Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards, who covered the Rose Parade on KTLA until 2016.
