Mental health awareness will get a big boost this saturday, as a group of artists and performers are teaming up with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health for WE RISE, a 10-day pop-up festival showcasing local artists and performers in Downtown Los Angeles.
WE RISE starts on Saturday, and runs until May 28 from 5 to 10 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Over the course of the show, more than 150 artists will present original artworks.
Performances by artists such as Jabbawokeez and Common are scheduled throughout the festival, and artists such as Shepard Fairey and Bobby Hundreds will also participate.
“This generation is calling BS on inaction,” organizer Yosi Sergant said. Sergant is the owner of TASKFORCE, the group responsible for producing the event. “At WE RISE, we will be coming together as a community of artists, activists and community members to create a healthier and more just society,”
WE Rise will also feature workshops covering topics like “adulting,” meditation and art therapy. Memorial Day will also feature special events for veterans and their families. All events are free and open to the public.
