Around the Hub: Time changes, rainstorms and more in review

It is going to take all week to catch up to the time change.

Can someone explain the need for daylight savings time anyway? …

City Councilman Jose Huizar and residents dodged raindrops Saturday to do a tree planting at Hazard Park in Boyle Heights. He tweeted about the great job.

We’ll echo the tweet of @LAFDtalk here with congratulations to LAFD Battalion Chief Nikki Brodowy:

Interesting note from the Los Angeles Public Library, this week curators added nine new Chinese language books to the collection. If you want to learn more about what’s going on in the world of books, the library has a really good blog here

We’ll also echo the thoughts and prayers of LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, who sent his condolences to members of the Pomona Police Department. PPD lost an officer in the line of duty earlier this month.

“Another hero gone too soon,” Beck tweeted. “These tragedies are occurring too often, and the pains of sacrifice will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with the @PomonaPD today.”

LAO\PD officers will be wearing black arm bands in honor of their fallen colleague.

Finally, Rev. Andy Bales, CEO of the Union Rescue Mission, wants you to know that there is still time to sponsor an Easter meal.  His tweet: “Just a few weeks left to transform a life with an Easter meal for $2.54”

You can do it here.
