A man once charged with shooting his friend in 2009 was fatally shot in Lakewood Monday night, authorities said Thursday.

Lakewood resident Zachary Morrison, 28, died after a shooting at about 9:40 p.m. Monday in the 12100 block of 207th Street, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

In 2012, Morrison was charged with the 2009 murder of Brea resident James Arrecis. According to The Orange County Register, Morrison and co-defendant Peter Baltazar were both also charged with street terrorism, along with enhancements for being in a criminal street gang and for discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury, court records show.

However, the murder charge against Morrison was dismissed in November 2012.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
