ACTON (CNS) – A large brawl involving at least 50 people near a high school football game in Acton prompted the game to be ended early, authorities said today.
During a time out to tend to a player who suffered a broken leg, a commotion was heard about 9:35 p.m. Friday on the basketball courts near the football field at Vasquez High School, located at 33630 Red Rover Mine Road., according to Lt. Steve De Jong of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Palmdale Station.
A deputy witnessed at least 50 people fighting and additional deputies responded to the scene and broke up the fight, De Jong said.
School and game officials made the decision to call the game between Vazquez and Azusa high schools, De Jong said. Vazquez was leading Azusa 12-7 at the time the game was ended.
The players and fans from Azusa were escorted to their bus and vehicles. No arrests or injuries were reported as a result of the brawl, De Jong said.
Reports that players from the Azusa high football team were involved in the fight could not be confirmed.
The injured player was taken to a hospital.
