Coroner releases name of pedestrian killed by alleged DUI driver

SANTA FE SPRINGS (CNS) – A man struck and killed while walking across a street in Santa Fe Springs was publicly identified today.

Florencio Alonso Jr., 30, was a Whittier resident, coroner’s Lt. Larry Dietz said.

The crash was about 12:25 a.m. Sunday on Carmenita Road, just south Lakeland Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

Sary Tuy, 36, of Norwalk was driving a 2007 Toyota south on Carmenita Road when the car hit the pedestrian walking across the road, the CHP said.

Alonso died at the scene, the CHP said.

Tuy was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

He posted $100,000 bail and was released from jail Sunday afternoon, according to jail records.
