GLENDALE (CNS) – A former Monrovia High School student who alleged she was sexually abused in 2009-10 by a security guard who also worked as a campus club adviser reached a settlement of her lawsuit.

Lawyers for the plaintiff, who is now 24 years old and is identified only in her lawsuit as Jane MA Doe, filed papers in Glendale Superior Court on Oct. 12 stating that the case was resolved. No terms were divulged and it was not immediately clear if the settlement is subject to approval by the Board of Education.

The suit was filed in Dec. 16 and named as defendants the Monrovia Unified School District and Monrovia High School. The suit’s allegations included negligence, sexual harassment, sexual battery and gender harassment.

The plaintiff was a minor at the time and her alleged abuser was a security guard and an adviser for the school’s Urban Art Club, according to her lawsuit, which further alleged the MUSD ignored signs that he was taking advantage of the girl.

“Defendants were very well aware that (the alleged abuser) took an unusual interest and spent an inordinate amount of time with Jane MA Doe,” the suit stated.

The alleged abuser molested the girl “multiple times per month” in 2009-10, the suit stated.

As a result of her abuses, the plaintiff “began to experience multiple mental, emotional and psychological problems,” including anxiety, depression and insomnia, the suit stated.
