21-year-old Whittier resident Alan Bedros Gozukara has been charged with murder, after police alleged he used a meat cleaver to kill his mother’s caretaker last week in Whittier.

Gozukara was scheduled to be arraigned today at the Bellflower courthouse, but the court appearance was continued to tomorrow, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Caretaker Aniy Cinoglu, 52, of Montebello, was found in the backyard of a home in the 12800 block of Stardell Street and pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, the attack took place just after noon on Friday.

Gozkukara was arrested the same day by Whittier police and has remained behind bars since then in lieu of $2 million bail, according to jail records. According to police, Gozukara had blood on him when he was taken into custody.

If convicted as charged, he could face up to 26 years to life in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
