PICO RIVERA (CNS) – A man allegedly armed with a handgun was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Pico Rivera this morning, authorities said.

The fatal shooting occurred about 2 a.m. in the 7100 block of Pico Vista Road, according to Deputy Dangelo Robinson of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

ABC7 reported deputies were in pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle when he crashed and shots were fired by deputies at the man’s car. The suspect was armed with a handgun, sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said.

The driver fled on foot and a second deputy-involved shooting occurred a few blocks from the site of the crash, ABC7 said.

The man was pronounced dead at the second shooting scene. His name was withheld, pending family notification. A handgun believed to have been in his possession was recovered by deputies, Mendoza said. No deputies were injured.
