Soccer fans can show their support on the Metro starting Sept. 18, when riders will be able to purchase TAP cards emblazoned with the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) logo.
According to Metro spokeswoman Anna Chen, such sports-themed TAP cards have long been in demand, with riders asking why they were unavailable.
“The reason is simply that we don’t have permission to use their names and logos,” Chen said in a Sept. 12 blog post.
But a new partnership with LAFC, Los Angeles’ newest soccer team, has changed that. LAFC plays out of the Banc of California Stadium, across the street from the Expo Park / USC Station Expo Line station. The team will also offer discounts on hats at merchandise kiosks on game day or at the LAFC HQ team store for those with the new TAP cards.
The cards will be available while supplies last at Metro stations on all rail lines, as well as the Silver and Orange lines and at Metro Customer Centers.
