L.A.’s blogging scene is alive and well. Last week, The Hub recognized some of the best blogs run by small teams and lone wolves. This week’s edition of The List turns to some larger blogs offering vital info on niche scenes across the Southland.

MomsLA

Local moms have come together to put together L.A.’s premier family life blog. Full of weekend activities, neighborhood guides and tips for making the most of the “Back to School” season, MomsLA was founded in 2010 by L.A. residents Yvonne Condes and Sarah Auerswald. Since then, it’s become a bit more famous than other blogs on this list. MomsLA has been featured on CNN, The New York Times, NPR, and PBS Socal. That doesn’t mean Condes and Auerswald have forgotten their roots, though. The site is still targeted towards families looking for fun.

Art and Cake

Art and Cake digs into L.A.’s eclectic art scene. Local events such as openings and shows are covered, and the blog also offers resources and exposure to up-and-coming stars. Art and Cake’s biggest advantage over similar blogs are the contributors. Art historians and critics, museum curators, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists all share Art and Cake’s pages to put together a comprehensive view of what’s hot in the world of art.

Girl Underground Music

Popular music blogs tend to be run by venues like Echoplex or the Ace Hotel. What about a zine with an old school feel? That would be Girl Underground Music, which on local events and acts from across the country. There’s a lot to explore in Girl Underground’s wheelhouse, which makes sense given its origins as a non-commercial radio show hosted by now-editor Janette Ayub.

Nature in L.A. Blog

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County’s Nature in L.A. Blog remains to Southern California’s environment — urban and otherwise. Recent features have focused on bats living in backyards, invasive beetles and paleontology. Since the blog is affiliated with the the Natural History Museum, Nature in L.A. also covers new programs and events readers can participate in, making it unlike any other nature blog in the Southland.

The Santee Alley

In last weeks edition of The List, we pointed out one of L.A.’s hottest fashion blogs. But looking good can get pricey, which is why we’ll to end this week’s edition with the Santee Alley blog, featuring the best bargains on the cutting edge of local fashion.
