BURBANK (CNS) – ABC will air a live episode of “The Conners” tonight at 8 p.m. in connection with the New Hampshire primary, part of its plan to air at least one live or major event every month.

Tonight’s episode, “Live From Lanford,” will be performed live from the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank for both the East Coast and West Coast broadcasts and incorporate ABC News coverage of the first-in-the-nation primary into the story in real time.

The episode will have Mark Conner-Healy (Ames McNamara), the younger of Darlene Conner’s (Sara Gilbert) two children, watching the results of the primary for a school report with his older sister Harris (Emma Kenney), who is apathetic to the electoral process and believes money’s influence in politics means real change is impossible.

The rest of the family share their differing takes on why they all think everyone should vote, including their working-class perspective that you “may have to vote for a candidate you don’t love but one that will `screw you the least,”’ according to ABC.

Other major or live events set to air on ABC include another death- defying walk by daredevil Nik Wallenda March 4; a celebrity edition of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and the NFL draft in April; another pair of re-creations of Norman Lear-produced 1970s comedies in May; the Primetime Emmys Sept. 20; and a production of the Mel Brooks musical “Young Frankenstein” in October.

Previous live or major events that have aired on ABC to generally great ratings success, including “The Wonderful World of Disney presents The Little Mermaid Live!” because of their broad appeal “to kids and families and parents and young adults,” ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke said last month during ABC’s portion of the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.

“That is the secret sauce in what unites people to watch those,” Burke said.
