LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Repair crews worked this morning to fix a broken water main in the Chinatown area of Los Angeles that flooded streets and the parking lots of a fast food restaurant and pharmacy.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power repair crews responded about 11 p.m. Wednesday to the water main break at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Beaudry Avenue, according to spokesman Jason Stinnett.

The estimated time when repairs were expected to be completed was about 8 p.m., utility spokeswoman Christy Holland. A total of 10 customers lost water service, she added.

The pipe that ruptured was a 24-inch cast iron pipe, Holland said.

The rupture sent a torrent of water in the streets and flooded the parking lot of a Jack in the Box and a CVS Pharmacy.

Water was being stopped in phases as part of the repair and restoration, officials said.

A person on a bicycle rode into the hole, but was not seriously hurt, ABC7 reported.

Motorists were advised to use alternate routes to get around the flooded area.
