Car accident shears fire hydrants, prompts closure of PCH in Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA (CNS) – A vehicle rolled over and sheared off two fire hydrants on Pacific Coast Highway this morning, prompting the closure of the road in both directions at the California Incline.

The accident occurred about 3 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

As of 5:45 a.m., water was still shooting high into the air from the sheared hydrants and into the Santa Monica Bluffs.

Traffic was being diverted off the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway on the Fourth Street off ramp, Cal Trans said.

The road will be closed until further notice.

Details of the accident were not immediately available.
