EV drivers at risk of cyber crimes if credit rules are approved, study finds


Drivers of electric vehicles are likely to become targets of cyber criminals if new proposals that mandate the installation of credit card readers at EV charging stations are approved, according to a new security study published Tuesday.

Currently, many electric car charging stations accept online payments from a customer’s smart phone, eliminating the need for physical payments.

Several states, including California, Vermont, Arizona and Nevada, are considering mandating that electric car charging stations include magnetic strip readers for credit cards.
