On Wednesday morning, Facebook and Instagram users began reporting that both app and website were not working, according to downtime tracker DownDetector.
Shortly after 9 a.m., DownDetector reported a spike in downtime reports from the social media juggernaut. According to the site, 40 percent of reports showed a total blackout, while 36 percent of reports had to do with trouble logging in to Facebook. Instagram was similarly affected.
Online, users shared tips to get back online.
“Clear your caches and try to open Facebook,” DownDetector user Jay Carter wrote. “I did clear my caches and I’m up.”
As of 10 a.m., many users reported being able to log in, but DownDetector still saw user blackouts along the West Coast and in major cities in North America and Europe.
