Dodgers Stadium isn’t the only Los Angeles destination that could soon see soaring gondolas transporting visitors.
According to engineering firm Stantec, hired by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks to study the feasibility of an aerial transit system near the park, gondola lifts could alleviate traffic on the Golden State Freeway. Trams will also be explored, along with an additional routes to the Hollywood Sign.
Potential effects on the surrounding wildlife and community will be one of the focus of the study.
“Griffith Park is one of Los Angeles’ true crown jewels,” said Simon Bluestone, the vice president of Stantec. “We’re thrilled to be working with the Department of Recreation and Parks and the surrounding community to help inform decision-making on what could be a game changer for park visitors and residents.”
The gondola study is one of 29 Griffith Park traffic-mitigation studies approved last year. Stantec engineers estimate the study will be approaching completion by September.
