San Fernando Valley and Santa Monica Mountains residents can rejoice. Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer announced Thursday his office is suing the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) over excessive noise from planes departing Hollywood Burbank Airport.
According to Feuer’s office, the FAA failed to notify the public before allowing the airport to modify its flight paths, and also failed to conduct an environmental review following what’s been called the “southerly shift” of departing planes.
“While thousands of my constituents have their lives disrupted day and night by departing planes, the FAA refuses to give direct answers why the shift has taken place.” Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian said. “This lawsuit is needed to compel the agency to provide critical information it continues to withhold.”
The lawsuit seeks to have the FAA take responsibility for planes departing Burbank Airport by requiring FAA get aircraft back on the historic flight paths.
