POMONA (CNS) – A person was killed in a fiery traffic crash this morning near a school in Pomona, and classes were canceled for the day, police said.
Officers responded about 2:30 a.m. to the crash near La Verne Science and Technology Charter School at 250 W. La Verne Avenue, near Garey Avenue, and found a vehicle that had struck a power pole, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Power lines were downed as a result of the crash, and utility workers were sent to restore service to some customers without electricity, including the school, police said.
The vehicle, an SUV, burst into flames as a result of the collision and the driver was found dead inside the vehicle, NBC4 reported. No other injuries were reported.
Information was not immediately available on the identity or gender of the motorist, whose body was badly burned, police said.
