The 36th annual Pasadena Black History Parade featured area students, local civic groups, a handful of celebrities and several local politicians as participants marched on Fair Oaks Avenue from Charles White Park in Altadena to Robinson Park in Pasadena on Saturday Feb. 17

Participants also included Gerald Freeny, the first ever black president of the Tournament of Roses. Freeny will preside over Pasadena’s other parade on Jan 1. 2019. Others taking part included U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, D-Pasadena; state Sen. Anthony Portantino, D-La Canada; L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger; Mayor Terry Tornek and Pasadena city councilmen John Kennedy and Tyron Hampton.

Residents lined Fair Oaks for the opportunity to interact with marchers and weren’t disappointed as many were the recipients of handshakes, waves and blown kisses.

The event was sponsored by Wells Fargo, the Tournament of Roses, Wescom Credit Union and Pasadena City College.
