Rivian debuts electric truck at 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show

Rivian isn’t yet as well-known as Ford, but that could soon change.

Last year Ford sold 896,764 F-series pickup trucks – about one every 36 seconds whether Ford dealerships are open or not.

That’s a lot of trucks, and the F-series pickup continues to be one of the best-selling cars on the planet, but not a single one of the trucks Ford sold last year – or ever – was electric.

Enter the R1T, the first electric pickup truck from Rivian, an American company that has been working on both the R1T and its SUV counterpart, the R1S, for the thick end of a decade.

The e-powered pickup made its global debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, which runs through Dec. 9.

Here are the headline figures: The R1T has a range of 400-plus miles, will be able to tow more than 10,000 pounds and can accelerate from 0-60 in three seconds.
